Donation Q & A
Q. Why do individuals work with the Society instead of trying to raise the funds alone?
A. There are many reasons for this. As a 501c3 (a non-profit organization or public charity) each gift given is tax deductible. This is beneficial for our donors in making each charitable dollar go farther. In addition, many donors appreciate the third party accountability that the Labouré Society provides. Often and most importantly, Aspirants appreciate the encouragement and expertise of our staff and process.
Thanks be to God, Aspirant Campaigns through the Labouré Society have been
extraordinarily successful!
Q. Where does my gift go?
A. The Labouré Society assists vocations to religious communites that are in communion with the Holy Father and the Magisterium of the Catholic Church through fidelity to the Holy Catholic Church’s doctrines and dogmas in their community statements and the activities of their individual members.
Q. Is anonymous giving possible?
A. Aspirants are made aware of the names of those donating in their honor. However, donors may secure anonymity by informing the Society of their request.
Q. How do donors make gifts?
A. The Labouré Society accepts cash, check, and credit card donations. Gifts may be made using a response envelope (included in the Mailing Packets), our secure donation website, or in particular cases, via telephone.
Q. Can donors make automatic ongoing payments?
A. From our secure donation website, donors can choose the frequency: one-time, monthly, quarterly, or annually. They can also choose the account they want automatic deduction from; credit card, checking, or savings.
Q. Do donors receive confirmation of their gifts?
A. The Society sends a ‘Thank You/Tax Donation’ letter to each donor.
Q. How much of my gift goes toward Aspirants?
A. 90%, while the remaining10% of all donations made 'in honor of' an Aspirant, are directed to operating expenses. This is well below industry standards. These funds cover not only our operating expenses (staff, office, newsletter, mailings, etc.), but also the production and shipping cost of mailing materials we send to our Aspirants (holy cards, cover letters, return envelopes, newsletters, etc).
The 10% fee has not affected an Aspirant’s ability to enter formation, but has allowed the Labouré Society to continue existing! Without the 10% fee, our staff would not be available to provide ongoing personal support and encouragement to each and every Aspirant.
It is our hope, however, that through our own fundraising for the general fund, we will be able to reduce and discontinue the 10% fee as soon as possible
Q. May I make a designated gift to a particular individual?.
A. No. All funds raised by the Aspirant are deposited into one general fund. These funds are then allocated to the debts of Aspirants at the sole discretion of the Labouré Society. The participation of the Aspirant will be determined by their good faith effort to further the cause of the mission of The Laboure Society by fulfilling the stated requirements of the organization.
The Labouré Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All contributions to The Labouré Society are income tax deductible and are made with the understanding that The Labouré Society has complete discretion and control over the use of all donated funds. Donations are
non-refundable.
