Bishop Michael Jarrell of the Diocese of Lafayette Good reported good vocation prospects to the Lafayette Serra Club’s installation banquet, Wednesday, at the Petroleum Club.
“We have a rigorous screening process,” said Jarrell. “But if all the applicants are approved, we will have 48 seminarians this fall. That is the largest number since 1989 when we also had 48.”
Admitting he is “cautiously optimistic,” Jarrell said, “We ordained two this year, and if all things hold, in 2016 we should have three, in 2017 we could have four, and in 2018, our centennial year, we could have seven.”
Jarrell commended the the Rev. Kevin Bordelon, vocation director, and the support of the Serra Club both spiritually and financially for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
